How to move to Oregon in 6 easy steps
Wednesday, October 15th, 20081) Acquire a really cute kitten. It’s better if he’s litterbox-trained, but we discovered that this isn’t strictly necessary.

2) Walk through your house and decide what’s worth moving across the country. What isn’t, sell. Take all of your remaining stuff and cram it into a POD. What doesn’t fit, give away or abandon. Tie securely with ropes. Use your mad Tetris skillz and don’t be afraid to turn large furniture upside down. It should look something like this:
3) Once the POD is hauled away, remember to check in places like the dishwasher and the hall closet to see what’s left. Cram that stuff into your car. Try to leave a little room for the animals (see step 1), but if you’ve planned ahead and acquired small and/or patient pets, this again isn’t strictly necessary:

4) Drive west for 3 days. A lot of it will look like this:

It may seem a little boring at times, but you’ve got the cute kitten for entertainment and the occasional litterbox mishap (see step 1). Also, trust me, sitting for hours at a time will feel fantastic if you’ve completed steps 2 & 3.
5) Arrive at your new house, and unload the car. Be forewarned that your POD will not be there any time soon, so it might be a little empty for a while.
